What better way to judge
a phone’s performance than by its proven capabilities.
Here’s the story of how the Philips 9@9++
came to the rescue of 8 mountaineers.
The amazing battery life
and connectivity
was a saviour for these 8 adventure seekers.
|
October 5th, 2001. Just another day in just another police station near the Jinggang mountains in China. But the sudden ringing of the telephone at 6:05 pm disturbs this tranquility. The police receive an emergency call stating that 8 backpackers are lost in the Jinggang mountains. They have been hiking on the deadly terrain for 80 hours now. |
 |
| They
are low on resources like food and water and
worst of all, they have casualties! The frightening
truth was that they wouldn’t have been
able to call for help if it hadn’t been
for the foresight of one of the backpackers
to carry a Philips Xenium phone. All the other
backpackers’ phones had stopped working;
their batteries had died. The Philips Xenium
was their only link to the civilised world. |

|
 |
| Twenty hours later, at around 2:30 pm the next day, the rescue team is constantly guided by vital messages sent by the Philips Xenium 9@9++. Helping the rescue team find their exact location isn’t easy but the backpackers relentlessly give all the information and clues. The Philips Xenium doesn’t let them down; the battery still has a lot of power left. |
 |
| The SMS trail helps
the rescue team pinpoint the lost backpackers
and on October 6th at 7:05 pm, the backpackers
are finally brought to safety. This wouldn’t
have been possible hadn’t it been for
the Philips Xenium’s extra long battery
life. |
 |
| It
isn’t surprising that soon after, the media proclaimed the Philips Xenium 9@9++ as “the mountain rescue hero”. |
